The Merit Badges results have been return from Ma-Ka-Ja-Wan Scout Reservation. The scouts have completed 93 merit badges with over 55% completion rate of merit badge attempted. This about the same as last year. I've attached the results.
"So Mr. Arango, what do I do about my partial?" So here's the process. We will not just give the scouts partial blue cards. To get your blue cards, you need to reach out to the Scoutmaster, Mr Grundhofer to get the contact information for a merit badge counselor. You also need to have a plan of how you are going to finish the merit badge. If it's as simple as showing a first aid kit, that doesn't take much of a plan. If you need to sail a boat or shot an arrow, there needs to be some sort of plan how that might be finished.
There are a number of merit badges where scouts/patrols can finish the merit badges together. For Example, there are 12 scouts that need to finish First Aid where they generally need the same requirements. For these situations, we need one or two scouts to take charge so that we don't have 12 people reaching out to the same counselors. The Adult leaders are willing to assist but we want to give the scouts the opportunity to organize these efforts and do the coordination.
For Wilderness Survival Req 8 (Build a shelter and spend the night in it). This needs to be supervised and will be conducted as part of the September Camp-Out at Sleeping Bear Dunes.
Please don't hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions. Mr. Grundhofer will be off to Northern Tier this next week but it doesn't mean you can't start your planning.
